Why They Ghosted reads your screenshots once, then forgets them. It keeps the report it wrote for you, so you have a link you can open again, share or delete. It does not build a library of people’s private conversations.
What we process
When you request a report, your selected screenshots and optional context are sent securely to OpenAI solely to generate that report. Model storage is disabled for these requests. The screenshots themselves are never written to our database, and neither is the transcript taken from them or the context you typed. They exist only for the seconds it takes to produce your report.
The report we keep for you
We do store the finished report: the verdict, the figures we counted, and the passages it wrote, which can include short quotes from the conversation you uploaded. This is what makes your link work when you come back to it, and what lets you unlock the full backstory without uploading anything again. Each report sits at an unguessable address, is not indexed by search engines, and is deleted automatically after 90 days. Anyone with the link can see the free part of the report. The paid part needs the private key that only your browser holds, so sharing your link does not expose it. You can delete a report at any time, which removes it immediately and permanently.
Payments
After you add screenshots and context, you can choose a free first read or buy the full backstory. Polar acts as the merchant of record and handles checkout, payment, receipts and applicable transaction taxes. Polar receives the information needed to process the purchase, including your email, billing country and network address. We never see or store your complete card details. Your screenshots stay in the original browser tab while checkout opens separately. We keep a random purchase reference for up to 30 days so that browser can redeem it for one full report. Once the report is built, we keep only the Polar checkout reference against that report so it stays unlocked for you.
What we keep
We record anonymous product events such as whether an analysis succeeded, whether a verdict image was shared or downloaded, which evidence mode was used, and broad acquisition information such as referral hostname or campaign tags. If you submit feedback, we store your rating, payment and sharing intent, optional comment, and a random journey identifier for that page visit.
Anonymous visitor measurement
To distinguish a returning browser from repeated page reloads, we save a random identifier in that browser for up to 30 days. It is used only for first-party product measurement, is not tied to a name, email or conversation, and is not used to follow you across other websites. Clearing site data removes it immediately.
Abuse and cost protection
To keep the beta reliable, we convert the connecting network address into a one-way, salted fingerprint and use it only to enforce daily report limits. We do not store the original address in the application database, and limit records are automatically removed after approximately one week.
What we deliberately avoid
We do not place advertising cookies, build cross-site profiles, sell personal data, or store screenshot filenames and message content in analytics.
Other people’s information
Only upload material you are entitled to share. Crop names, faces, phone numbers, locations and other identifying details that are not necessary for the analysis. Do not upload intimate imagery or content involving anyone under 18.
AI limitations
The report identifies patterns in the material supplied. It cannot know another person’s private motives and should not be treated as fact, professional advice or a mental-health assessment.
Questions or deletion requests
Screenshots are never retained, so there is nothing to delete there. A stored report can be deleted by you from the report itself, and expires on its own after 90 days. Feedback records can be removed when you provide enough information for us to locate them. Email hello@whytheyghosted.app.
